Private italian villa rentals In the heart of Italy: Ideally located to explore Umbria, Lazio and Tuscany.

LOCATION

Villa Le Terrae and Villa of the Aqueduct are located in the territory of Orte, on the Eastern edge of the Tuscia Viterbese, an area dense with gentle hills and hilltop towns, at the boudary with Umbria.  Extremely central and well connected, the area was traditionally an obligatory passage and crossing of the Tiber river for pilgrims and travelers heading to Rome. Once a land of adventurers and brigands, it was chosen for its untamed beauty by noble families and popes for their summer residences. Nowadays, Orte is bordered  by the main Italian railroad running North-South and the main Autostrada highway, a unique and enviable location which permits the travel to most every part of Italy in short time.

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE REGION

The landscape is characterized by the warm colors of the underlying volcanic rocks. The fertility of the soil and the richness of water produced the lush vegetation, with the dominance of oaks (Quercus robur). To the West are remains of the ancient Ciminian Forest of the Etruscans, so thick and mysterious to be feared by the Romans. In this enchanting natural scenery the ancient hill towns seem to be spontaneously raising from the volcanic tufa cliffs.
