LIFE IN A HILLTOWN: THE UNDISCOVERED, CHARMING SMALL TOWNS BETWEEN LAZIO, UMBRIA AND TUSCANY
This itinerary will take you in the breathtaking landscapes of the hilltowns, built on naturally fortified steep tufa cliffs that in the past helped assure the strategic control of surrounding territory. The territory that we will explore was the theatre of intense volcanic activity; lava flows from the volcanic districts Vicano and Cimino created soft tufa rock formations that, through the erosion of rivers and creeks, gave form to the “Forre”: The spectacular canyons and cliffs with extraordinarily lush vegetation. We will visit small towns virtually untouched by tourism, and amazing sites that are only known by locals. While most of the trip takes you to undiscovered and authentic sites, one day is dedicated to the visit of the well-known iconic hilltowns of Civita di Bagnoregio and the spectacular jewel of Italian hilltowns Orvieto, to complete the overview of this extraordinary part of Italy.
In this fascinating and adventurous tour you will discover the sites and the refined culture of the Etruscan people, the forerunners and masters to the Romans.
